Men's Basketball Pounds Haverford, 70-37
WASHINGTON-- Jason Banzhaf scored 14 points to lead CUA (3-2) to a 70-37 stomping of Haverford (1-2) on Tuesday evening at the DuFour Center.
R.J. Dixon joined Banzhaf in double figures with a 10-point performance, adding four steals and two assists. Chris Kearney continued his dominance grabbing nine boards and adding seven points while Shawn Holmes dropped eight points and grabbed six rebounds in the win.
For the Fords it was all Cameron Baker as he finished with 17 of Haverford's 37 points making four steals. Baker controlled the ball for the majority of the visitors time of possession.
After exchanging the lead and several ties, CUA took control when Nate Koenig dropped a three on a feed from Ryan Horka with 6:57 remaining in the first half. From that point on the Fords inched within one only one time with 2:35 left, but Horka and Banzhaf back-to-back layups put the Cardinals up five. The Cards led by eight at the break, 31-23 and shot 41.2% from the field in the first half.
Playing at a furious pace throughout the game, CUA opened the second half with a layup by Banzhaf and a triple from Dixon to break the game wide open with a 13-point lead.
The Fords attempted to get back in the game with a 7-3 run, but with 15:07 remaining and the score 39-30, Spencer Reed hit a layup and began the Cardinals 31-7 run that closed out the game.
CUA out rebounded the visitors 51-29 including 39 defensive rebounds. In the game the Cards shot 29-60 (48.3%) while Haverford shot just 15 of 61 (24.6%).
