Men's Basketball Dominates Drew, 78-51
WASHINGTON-- It was a team effort as CUA (12-4, 4-1 LC) dropped Drew University (3-11, 1-4 LC), 78-51 on Sunday afternoon in Landmark Conference action.
Fourteen players hit the hardwood this afternoon in the Cardinal uniform, with 10 of them contributing points and the remaining four contributing with either rebounds or assists. Jason Banzhaf led the point column with 19 points, while Chris Kearney and Spencer Reed led the rebounding effort with six boards each.
Terrell Brown scored a game and team-high 22 points for the Rangers in the loss.
CUA set the pace early breaking away from an 8-5 game with a 19-0 run to go up 27-5 with 12:20 remaining. The Cardinals shot perfectly from the field until Banzhaf needed a second effort to put in a layup with 13:55 remaining (7-of-7 to start the contest). CUA led at the break, 42-20.
In the second half it was more of the same as the Cardinals opened the half with a 19-4 run that put the hosts up by 39, their largest lead of the game. Down the stretch the Cards used the bench and maintained the significant advantage with solid shot selection and and strong rebounding, out rebounding the visitors 20-12 in the second half.
CUA dominated the inside game, netting 38 points in the paint and 25 points off turnovers. The Cardinals also dominated the offensive glass with an 11-5 advantage and 13 second chance points.
CUA will return to action on Friday, Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m. as the Cardinals will travel to the University of Scranton for the second game of a women's/men's Landmark Conference doubleheader.
