WASHINGTON-- Jason Banzhaf and Shawn Holmes each scored in
double figures as CUA (15-5, 7-2 LC) dropped Juniata in Landmark
Conference action Saturday, 60-44.
Banzhaf recorded as double double as he paired his 13 points with 10 rebounds. Holmes hit 5-of-9 from the field including a triple and a free throw for 12 points.
Jeff Berkey led Juniata with 13 points and seven rebounds as the hosts shot only 30.5% from the field in the game.
CUA fell behind in the early minutes of the game, but 12-0 run over a six minute period, put the Cardinals up 12-4 with 13:04 to go. Nate Higgins got Juniata back within one with 8:32 to go on a triple, but Nate Koenig answered with a trey of his own on the ensuing possession.
The Cardinals led at the break 33-22 and broke out in the second half to a lead of as many as 22 before settling at 16 at the final buzzer.
CUA shot 46.7% from the field in the game, going 21-of-45 including 7 for 20 (35%) from three-point range. The Cardinals also added 12 steals and three blocks while out rebounding their opponents 38-29.
CUA will return to action Friday, Feb., 5, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. when Moravian travels to the DuFour Center for the Cardinals' final home weekend of regular season Landmark Conference action.
