Men's Basketball Edges Out Juniata, 71-66
WASHINGTON-- Led by RJ Dixon, who dropped 16 points and added four rebounds, CUA improved to 9-3 and 2-0 in the Landmark Conference with a 71-66 win over Juniata College.
Dixon was joined in double figures by Jason Banzhaf who finished with 13 points, nine rebounds and was 9-of-10 from the charity stripe.
Juniata was led by Alex Raymond and Jeff Berkey who netted 22 and 21 points, respectively.
The Cards dominated the boards, out-rebounding Juniata 42-28 and had 20 offensive rebounds led by Chris Kearney with 10, seven offensive.
After a back and forth first half that saw the lead change 11 times, the teams went into the locker room with the score 34-33 in favor of Juniata.
CUA led for most of the second half scoring eight of the half's first 10 points and taking a four-point advantage. The Cards held their lead by as many as six throughout the half, but with back-to-back triples the Eagles knotted the game at 57-57 with 5:47 remaining.
The teams exchanged small leads over the next few minutes before Banzhaf put CUA up 65-64 in the closing minutes with two free throws. Dixon then hit a jumper to put the Cards up three and seal the victory, 71-66.
The Cardinals will return to action tomorrow afternoon as Susquehanna will travel to the DuFour Center. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
