Landmark Conference honors Banzhaf with fourth weekly award

WASHINGTON – Following a pair of double-double performances over the weekend, CUA senior Jason Banzhaf was named the Landmark Conference Player of the Week on Monday.  Banzhaf averaged 21.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in the two games, while shooting 57 percent from the floor.  This marks the fourth time this season that Banzhaf has earned the award.

Banzhaf began his weekend with a 22-point, 10-rebound performance in CUA's 72-50 victory at Moravian on February 4.  The New Jersey native sank 10 of 16 shots from the field, including 2 of 3 3-pointers, and notched his 11th double-double of the season in the process.

The very next day Banzhaf had another strong all-around game, totaling 21 points, 11 rebounds and three assists in the Cardinals contest at Scranton.  He hit 9 of 17 shots on the afternoon and played 34 minutes for CUA.

On the season, Banzhaf is averaging team highs in points (18.8) and rebounds (9.4), while shooting 60 percent from the floor and 75 percent at the charity stripe.  He leads the Landmark Conference in rebounding and field goal percentage, while ranking third in scoring.

Banzhaf and the Cardinals begin the stretch run of their season this weekend when they welcome Drew to the DuFour Center on Friday evening for a pivotal Landmark Conference showdown.  Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, CUA will entertain Merchant Marine Academy beginning at 4.
