Landmark Conference names Banzhaf POW for a third time

WASHINGTON – One day after leading CUA to the Residence Inn Greenbelt Inn championship, Jason Banzhaf was named the Landmark Conference Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday.  The senior forward earns his third award of the season after averaging 27 points and 10 rebounds in two tournament games.

Banzhaf began his weekend with a 23-point performance on 8 of 13 shooting in a 60-42 win over City College of New York on January 1.  The New Jersey native also pulled down 12 rebounds in the victory.

The very next day Banzhaf had one of the best games of his storied career, as he hit 11 of 15 shots from the field en route to 31 points in the Cardinals thrilling 79-77 victory over Southern Maine in the tournament championship.  The 31 points were one off Banzhaf's career-high and earned the All-American an MVP trophy.

Banzhaf finished the tournament shooting a whopping 67 percent from the field (19 of 28) and 88 percent at the free throw line (15-17).

For his career, Banzhaf has now scored 1,521 points, which ranks 11th in CUA history.  For the season, Banzhaf is averaging team-highs in points (20) and rebounds (9.3), while shooting a sizzling 62.5 percent from the field.

The Cardinals will take their three-game win streak on the road this weekend as they step back into Landmark Conference play with games at Juniata on Friday evening and Susquehanna on Saturday afternoon.
