ECAC names Banzhaf a DIII South All-Star
WASHINGTON – The honors continue to roll in for Jason Banzhaf who was named a first team ECAC South All-Star on Tuesday. This marks the fourth postseason accolade for the Cardinals senior who had already been named an All-American, All-Region selection and All-Conference honoree.
A three time All-American, Banzhaf led CUA in scoring (18 ppg) and rebounding (9 rpg) in 2010-11. He also led the Landmark Conference in rebounding, while ranking third in scoring, fourth in field goal percentage and 11th in free throw percentage.
For his efforts this past season Banzhaf received his fourth selection to the All-Landmark Conference Team and third straight All-Region honor. The 2008 conference Rookie of the Year, Banzhaf is a three time first-team All-Conference selection.
Banzhaf scored in double figures in every game but one this season, topping out with 31 points in CUA's victory over Southern Maine in the championship game of the CUA-Residence Inn Greenbelt Classic on January 2. The New Jersey native was named tournament MVP for his performance, marking the second time he received that honor this season. Banzhaf was also named tournament MVP after helping lead the Cardinals to the Allegheny Invitational championship in November.
During the season Banzhaf collected four Landmark Conference Player of the Week honors, in addition to a pair of ECAC Player of the Week awards and a selection to the D3hoops.com national team of the week.
Banzhaf registered double digit rebounds in 15 games and his 15 double-doubles ranks 15th in America. His top rebounding performance came vs. Scranton in late January when he pulled down 16 caroms.
Banzhaf concluded his career with 1,819 points, good for third all-time at CUA, while his 879 career rebounds also places him third on the all-time leader board.
