CUA back in action this weekend as it hosts Greenbelt Classic

WASHINGTON – Following a two-week layoff, the Cardinals men's basketball team gets back on the court on Saturday afternoon when CUA hosts the 2011 Residence Inn Greenbelt Classic.  Joining the Cardinals at the DuFour Center will be CCNY, Rivier and Southern Maine.

CUA has not played since earning an impressive 79-50 victory over Stevenson on December 18.  The Cardinals held a comfortable lead for the final 36 minutes of that game and were led on offense by seniors R.J. Dixon and Jason Banzhaf with 18 points each.  Banzhaf also pulled down 12 rebounds, while Dixon led CUA with four assists and a pair of steals.

The Cardinals are off to an 8-2 start this season, including a 3-1 mark inside the DuFour Center Gymnasium.  Banzhaf (18.6) and Dixon (12.4) pace CUA on offense, while Banzhaf adds 9.2 rebounds per game and is shooting over 50 percent from downtown.

CUA is outscoring its opponents by over 11 points per game and holding the opposition to 37 percent shooting from the field.  The Cardinals also own a +7.3 rebound advantage and have outscored their counterparts a combined 354-292 in the second half.

CUA and CCNY will get things started at 4 p.m. on Saturday.  Southern Maine and Rivier begin the day's action at 2.  The consolation game will then take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday with the championship contest slated for a 4:00 start.

CUA has won this tournament each of the past two seasons, and four of the past five.

Following this weekend's tournament, CUA will head into the bulk of its conference slate, beginning on Friday, January 7 when it travels to take on Juniata.
