Dixon and Hyland selected as inaugural D3hoops.com All-Stars

WASHINGTON – Recently graduated CUA hoops student-athletes RJ Dixon and Ryan Hyland will be heading to Europe this weekend to compete as members of the inaugural D3hoops.com All-Star Team.  The nine-player team will depart the United States on May 21st and travel to London and France before returning on May 30th.

The trip, co-sponsored and directed by Sport Tours International will be a great opportunity for Division III hoops players to showcase their talent on an international level.

"We know there is great basketball played on the D3 level," said Sport Tours International president Lee Frederick.  "We have been working with D3 basketball coaches for over 25 years and we know how good the players are.  In an effort to showcase the players we knew working with the D3hoops.com staff was a no-brainer.  The all-stars get an experience of a lifetime, get to play great games and also showcase their skills internationally.  The mission of Division III athletics fits perfectly with the mission of Sport Tours."

The team will be coached by long-time veteran Head Coach Bob Gillespie of Ripon College.  The group will leave New York City on May 21st and spend five days in London before taking the ferry across the English Channel to France.  The team will bus to Paris and spend three days there before heading back to New York on the 30th.  The team will play three games vs. local club and semi-pro teams in London before playing once in Paris.

Dixon is a two-time First Team All-Conference selection and 1,000-point scorer on the basketball court, and a member of the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll and NABC Honors Court off of it.  His 1,175 career points rank 21st in school history and he finished his career with 349 assists, 154 steals and 144 made 3-pointers.

During the 2010-11 season Dixon led the Landmark Conference in free throw percentage, while ranking second in assists, fifth in scoring and sixth in made 3-pointers.  He scored a career-high 28 points at Susquehanna on January 8.  Dixon was CUA's 2011 recipient of the Harris Cup.

Hyland did a little of everything for the Cardinals during his undergrad years.  He served as a manager, student-assistant coach and also played.  He appeared in several contests during his career, including at BIG EAST member Notre Dame during the 2010-11 season.
