Cardinals selected third in Landmark Conference preseason poll

WASHINGTON – The Landmark Conference announced its 2012 men's lacrosse preseason poll on Monday, and CUA was selected third with 47 points.  The Cardinals won 11 games and advanced to their second straight Landmark Conference Tournament last season.

CUA's 11 wins last season marked the second straight year in which the Cardinals won double-digit contests.  CUA also went 3-2 in the Landmark Conference, earning the No. 3 seed in the postseason tournament.

Goucher sits atop the 2012 preseason poll with 61 points, while Scranton comes in second with 53 points.  Next, it's CUA (47) and Susquehanna (41) to round out the top four.

The final spots in the poll belong to Drew, Merchant Marine Academy and conference newcomer Washington & Jefferson.

The Cardinals have played once this season, downing Hood 7-3 on February 18 in what was CUA's fifth consecutive season opening victory.

Brendan Englert and Chris Fuccillo handled the offense for CUA, scoring four and two goals, respectively, while Patrick Pfaff sent back 14 shots in goal, en route to being named the Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Week

CUA returns to action on Tuesday afternoon when the Cardinals travel to face Hampden-Sydney.  Start time is set for 4 p.m.
