CUA drops 7-4 decision at Susquehanna, ending postseason hopes

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – CUA's postseason chances came to an end on Saturday when the Cardinals dropped a 7-4 decision at Susquehanna. CUA closed to within 4-2 in the 2nd quarter and 6-3 in the 4th, but was unable to get any closer. Brian Keith led the Cardinals with two goals on the day.

Susquehanna outshot the Cardinals 7-4 in the 1st quarter and outscored CUA 4-0 to grab an early advantage.

CUA got things going in the 2nd quarter however, getting on the board at the 12:19 mark when Brendan Englert found the back of the net.

William Cowan's score with 7:42 to play before the half brought the Cardinals to within 4-2, but the Crusaders scored the final two goals of the quarter to take a 6-2 lead into the locker room.

CUA outshot Susquehanna 5-4 in the 3rd quarter, but was unable to get on the board. The Cardinals defense kept the Crusaders off the board as well though, giving CUA a chance as the teams headed to the final quarter.

A goal by Keith 2:23 into the 4th pulled CUA within 6-3, but Austen Lein came right back with a goal of his own 23 seconds late to push the Crusaders lead back to four.

The Cards did all they could to hang around, receiving another goal from Keith with 3:01 remaining to make the spread three.

Susquehanna won the ensuing face-off however, and CUA was never able to get the ball back.

CUA was outshot 27-18 on the afternoon, and the Crusaders won 9 of the 15 face-offs.

Kevin Murray scooped up a team-high five ground balls for CUA, while Jack Drexel was the team leader in caused turnovers with two.

Harrison Holak stopped six shots in goal on the afternoon, and the Crusaders received 11 saves from Will Torrence.

CUA will close out the 2013 season on Saturday, April 27 when the Cardinals host Scranton inside Cardinal Stadium. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
