WASHINGTON - The United Stats Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association released its All-American and Scholar All-American Teams on Tuesday, and CUA's Walter Hickey received both honors.
Hickey was named Honorable Mention All-American midfielder, after being selected to the All-Landmark First Team as a senior. The captain led the Cardinals with 23 goals and 10 assists and was also Catholic's representative on the Landmark All-Sportsmanship Team.
The Thornwood, N.Y. native is just one of three Landmark players selected to the USILA All-American team as Austen Lein of Susquehanna and Pierce Ingram of Goucher were both also Honorable Mention honorees.
Hickey graduated on Saturday, May 17th with a degree in Engineering and was selected as a USILA Scholar All-American. To be eligible, a player must be nominated by his coach and be a student with Senior year academic standing and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale). He must also be an All-American , a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league or conference player. He will have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution, and to college lacrosse both on and off the field.
Joining Hickey as a Scholar All-American is Johnny Gregitis from Scranton. Hickey is the only Landmark player to be named to both squads this season.
