TOWSON, Md. – The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, and sports information directors. Chosen at the end of each sport season, the final eight honorees will be announced over the next two weeks.
Catholic University's Walter Hickey has been named the Men's Lacrosse Senior Scholar Athlete. The senior midfielder wrapped up his career after earning USILA Honorable Mention All-American honors and First Team All-Landmark honors this season. He was a Second Team All-Landmark selection as a junior. The two-time team captain led the Cardinals in scoring this season with 23 goals and 10 assists for 33 points. Additionally, Hickey was selected to the Landmark All-Sportsmanship Team last month.
In the classroom, Hickey has earned a 3.74 cumulative grade point average while studying engineering. He is a three-time Landmark Honor Roll selection and earned USILA Scholar All-American honors this spring. A Dean's List honoree, Hickey is also a member of the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society and the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society. He graduated magna cum laude last month.
Hickey found success in academics and athletics while also serving as president of the Catholic Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Additionally, he was a member of the Landmark SAAC and has been a four-year volunteer fire fighter in his hometown of Thornwood, N.Y.
