WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America men's lacrosse team earned a come-from-behind victory on Saturday afternoon at Cardinal Stadium as junior Bennett Bradley scored a program-record seven goals in the game to help down Coast Guard, 11-9.
Catholic trailed 7-2 with just 5:31 left in the second quarter but Bradley scored the next five goals for the Cardinals to make it an 8-7 game with a minute left in the third.
Senior Jack Murphy found the equalizer at 8-all just before the start of the fourth as he finished the feed from classmate Ethan Rodriguez. Bradley then followed with a man-up goal to give Catholic its first lead since 2-1 in the first quarter.
Coast guard was able to knot it up again, but Bradley capped his record-setting day with the gamewinner with 6:23 left.
Bradley topped the single-game scoring mark set last season by senior Tim Keith, who added an insurance goal with 4:07 left. and the 11-9 win.
Rookie goalkeeper Alex Mulyk continued his strong run in the cage as he made 12 saves to improve to 5-1.
Catholic outshot Coast Guard 37-26, thanks large in part to 19 shots from Bradley.
The Cards are now off to their best start in five years when the 2012 squad began the year 6-1.
Catholic now heads to Clearwater, Fla., for a neutral site matchup against Swarthmore on Wednesday, March 8 at noon.
