Catholic Ties Best Start in Program History; Downs Mary Washington With 31 Seconds Left

WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America men's lacrosse team rallied for a buzzer-beating victory at Mary Washington on Saturday, 11-10, as the Cardinals have tied the best start in program history with a 7-1 record to open 2017.

Catholic faced a 7-4 halftime deficit third quarter deficit but answered with four-straight goals including three by junior Liam Clancy.

Mary Washington was able to come back in the fourth and tied up the game at 10-all with 8:24 but Clancy had one more in him as he scored off the feed from junior Bennett Bradley with just 31 seconds left to give the Cards a big victory.

Clancy finished his day with four goals on five shots and put all of his attempts on net. He also added a ground ball.

Senior Tim Keith added a hat trick as he scored on all three of his shots and added to the trifecta with three ground balls. His classmate Jack Murphy added two goals.

Sophomore Jack Schmidt drew the start in the cage and made 12 saves for his second win of the year as he faced 41 shots.

Next on the schedule is a home game versus Ohio Wesleyan on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
