Goucher 19, Catholic 5

April 6, 2002

TOWSON, Md. - Goucher used a six-goal spurt midway through the first half to pull away from Catholic as the Cardinals fell to the Gophers in a CAC contest, 19-5. The loss snapped a season-high four game win streak for CUA.

After falling behind 3-0 in the first quarter, successive goals from juniors Eric Slagle (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) and John Bracken (Glen Mills, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) made it a one-goal game. The Gophers would reel off six straight goals and outscore CUA 9-2 to close out the half up 12-4.

Slagle would account for the only CUA tally, his third goal of the day, in the second half. Sophomore Justin Kelly (Milton, Mass./Boston College) also scored for Catholic.

Phil Anthony led Goucher with five goals and four assists. Teammate Qadir Stern added three goals and two helpers.

The Cardinals resume action on Friday as they play at Shenandoah at 7:30 p.m.
