BALTIMORE, MD. - Catholic tried to rally from three-goals down late in the fourth quarter but time ran out as the Cardinals fell to York College, 11-10, Saturday afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference action. The game was played on the campus of Johns Hopkins University.
York broke a 2-2 tie at the half as Josh Papson scored twice in a three-goal spurt to open the third quarter. Papson led YCP with four goals while teammate Brendan Brace added two tallies.
Catholic took a 6-5 lead at the end of the third quarter on Jimmy Nalls' goal. The senior led all scorers with six points (four goals/two assists).
But the Spartans (1-0, 1-0 CAC) answered by scoring six fourth-quarter goals capped off by Papson's man-up goal with 4:20 to play, which eventually was the game-winner.
Junior Eric Slagle scored twice over a span of the next two minutes, but the Cardinals were unable to get the equalizer.
Freshman Conor Kelly added a goal and two assists for Catholic (2-3, 0-3 CAC).
Sophomore Andrew Couden posted seven saves while his counterpart, York keeper Evan Mazzocchi, also made seven saves.
Catholic returns to action on Wednesday, March 19th with a non-league game against SUNY-Brockport at the DuFour Center at 3:30 p.m.
