WASHINGTON - Goucher jumped out with five straight goals to open the game as Catholic fell to the Gophers, 16-4, in a Capital Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon to break CUA's two-game win streak.

Senior Ryan Welsh put Catholic on the board at the 2:21 mark of the first with his 11th goal of the season.

But the Gophers (6-5, 3-2 CAC) were able to keep the Cardinals out of their net by outscoring CUA 4-0 in the second quarter to take a 9-1 lead at the half.

Ian Montgomery led all scorers with five goals while teammate Patrick Tracy had a game-high seven points with four goals and three assists.

Junior Eric Slagle and freshmen Terence Kempf and Steven Bennis added goals for Catholic (5-6, 0-5 CAC).

Goucher goalie Reeves Craig frustrated the CUA offense by making 18 saves on the day. CUA keeper Andrew Couden posted three saves while freshman Kyle Blodgett made five stops.

The Cardinals host Shenandoah University on Tuesday, April 8th at 4 p.m.
