CUA Beats Richard Stockton 9-6
Three players score multiple goals for Cards
WASHINGTON - The Catholic University men's lacrosse squad (2-3) utilized a balanced attack to take down the Richard Stockton College Ospreys (1-3) Tuesday afternoon at Cardinal Stadium. CUA had three players score a pair of goals apiece to get the 9-6 victory and improve to 2-3 for the season.
The duo of Danny McNamara (Southlake, Texas/Southlake) and Mike Groh (Walpole, Mass./Xavarian Bros) sparked the Cardinals to start the game scoring alternating goals. McNamara hit his first at 12:59 and Groh added one at 7:07 in the opening quarter. At 13:06 in the second McNamara found the back of the net off of a pass from Groh and two minutes later the freshman scored one of his own to make the score 4-1. Michael Scotto (Belmar, N.J./St. Rose) connected at 9:55 and senior Phil Reinckens (Bethesda, Md./St. John's College) notched a score at 3:12. CUA went into the break up 6-3.
Stockton managed an early goal from Tom Seidell in the third but from that point on CUA dominated the game. Reinckens hit his second while Sean Agnew (Erdenheim, Pa./LaSalle) and Paul Sutton (Havertown, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) got shots past the keeper. Stockton stepped it up in the final quarter of play scoring two goals but it wouldn't be enough as CUA came away with the 9-6 victory.
On paper, the Osprey's played a tough game gaining the advantage in shots (28-27) and face-offs (10-9). CUA also had 37 turnovers to Stockton's 31. Greg Kavazanjian (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) had a strong game in the net with 10 saves to the Osprey's eight.
CUA will have a few days rest before hosting the Randolph Macon Yellow Jackets on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
