CUA Downs Hood, 11-8
Scotto tallies four goals for the game
WASHINGTON - Catholic University men's lacrosse beat the Hood Blazers (0-9, 0-4 CAC) 11-8 Thursday evening at Cardinal Stadium. CUA had three players score multiple goals in the victory that improved the squad to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in the Capital Athletic Conference.
Hood got off to a good start scoring the first two goals of the game but the Cards came back and hit four scores in a total of eight minutes to take the game back into their control. Despite directing the pace of the game, CUA was unable to break out and take a large lead during the second quarter. After Mike Groh (Walpole, Mass./Xavarian Bros) hit his second goal of the day at 10:07, Hood came back and tied it up. Luckily Groh made it number three as time was winding down making the score 6-5 at the break.
The Cardinals commanded the beginning of the second half scoring three times in the quarter while allowing only one in defensively. The teams played it even in the second half and in the end CUA came away with the 11-8 win.
Michael Scotto (Belmar, N.J./St. Rose) led the Cards with four goals while Groh added three and Phil Reinckens (Bethesda, Md./St. John's College) had two. The Cards dominated on offense with 47 shots to Hood's 17 and an advantage of 41-25 in ground balls. The Cardinals were 15-23 on face-offs.
CUA will go on the road this Saturday with a non-conference match up against Kenyon at 1:00 p.m.
