Mustangs Roll Over Cardinals
WASHINGTON - The Catholic University men's lacrosse squad (102, 2-0) dropped second game of the season Sunday afternoon at Cardinal Stadium. CUA fell to the Villa Julie (3-0), 11-4, in its second Capital Athletic Conference game of the season.
Villa Julie went on two separate four-goal runs in the first half including one just five second into the game. Freshman Bobby MacArthur (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) broke up the scoring with an unassisted score at 2:43 in the first. At the break CUA was down 8-1. The Mustangs were led by Greg Furshman who had three goals in the first.
CUA stayed with Villa Julie in the second half as both teams found the back of the net three times. Colin Whitaker (Doylestown, Pa./LaSalle) scored at 11:29 in the third quarter while Phil Reinckens added another at 3:57. Freshman Paul Sutton (Havertown, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) hit CUA's final goal of the day with an unassisted tally in the fourth. At the final whistle the Mustangs had the 11-4 win.
Four players scored for CUA while Furshman led Villa Julie with four scores. The Mustangs outshot CUA 35-30 and had 37 groundballs to the Cardinals' 29. CUA did hold the advantage in faceoffs winning 11 of 18.
CUA will travel to Christopher Newport on Wednesday for a game on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
