Cardinals Suffer Tough Loss at Goucher
Groh scores CUA's lone goal
TOWSON, Md. - The Catholic University men's lacrosse team (6-7, 1-3 Landmark) took one on the chin Wednesday in a 13-1 loss to Landmark Conference rival, the Goucher College Gophers (9-3, 4-0 Landmark). CUA managed just one goal in the first quarter before going ice cold for the reminder of the game.
Goucher put in three quick goals to start the game putting CUA in a hole early. At 9:11, Mike Groh (Walpole, Mass./Xaverian Bros) took a pass from Jimmy Sinnott (Walpole, Mass./Xaverian Bros) during a man up situation and found the back of the net to make it 3-1. Unfortunately for the Cards, that would be the only goal of the day as they three in the second quarter to make it 6-1 at the break.
The second half was no better for the Cardinals despite a similar number of shots, no one was on target. Goucher scored three in the third and four in the fourth even with three different CUA keepers in the net. At the final horn, the Cards had lost 13-1.
CUA was out shot 39-26 and had eight fewer ground balls. Possession was also an issue for the Cards who were just 5-17 on face-offs. The one category the Cardinals did lead in was saves with 13 for the game while Goucher managed nine.
The Cards will travel to Scranton this Saturday for another Landmark Conference game. The contest is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
