Men's Lacrosse Opens With a Dominate 13-1 Win


WASHINGTON-- Although the men's lacrosse team opened the 2009 campaign today, its opponents were opening much more.  Gwynedd-Mercy played its institution's first game today...CUA won 13-1.

Led by Kyle Brant (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's), who finished with three goals on six shots, the Cardinals dominated the Griffins of Gwynedd-Mercy.  Jimmy Bitonti (Potomac, Md./Good Counsel), Tyler Catalani (Frederick, Md./St. John's MD), Casey Glad (University Park, TX/ Highland Park) and Mark Saxton (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) each recorded two goal games, while Mike Groh (Walpole, MA./Xavarian Bros) and Chris Fuccillo (Patchogue, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) each recorded single markers.

Brent Brearley marked the first, and only, goal of the day for the Griffins.  The visitors managed only 10 shots for the game.

CUA marked 13 goals, six assists, 41 shots, a 39-13 groundball advantage, and a perfect 17-0 in faceoffs.

Sean McKenna (Rockville,Md./Good Counsel) grabbed his first win of the season, marking three saves and giving up only one goal.

CUA will return to action Friday, March 6, 2009 as DeSales will visit Cardinal Stadium for a 1 p.m. contest.
