Men's Lacrosse Tops DeSales, 9-4

WASHINGTON-- Led by Kyle Brant (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's), who finished with three goals on eight shots, and added an assist, CUA defeated DeSales, 9-4 in a non-conference matchup Friday afternoon.

The Cardinals recorded 35 shots, forcing eight saves and scoring nine goals.  Jimmy Sinnot (Blue Bell, Pa./LaSalle) recorded six shots, finding the mesh twice while also adding an assist.  Tyler Catalani (Frederick, Md./St. John's) marked a team high two assists while taking three shots and finding the net twice.

DeSales was led by Jeff Cook who finished with two points for the visitors.  Kevin Walker went 10-4 in faceoffs, all four losses came to Tom Scotto (Spring Lake, N.J./St. Rose).

DeSales opened the scoring early with a man-up goal as Kevin Walker found the back of the net with 10:55 remaining in the first quarter. 

CUA responded as Catalani found Sinnot at 6:39 to even the game.  With 2:25 remaining in the first quarter the Cardinals took the lead as Casey Glad (University Park, TX/Highland Park) took a pass from Brant and found the back of the net.

The Cardinals scored the next seven goals, expanding their lead to 9-1 before allow three late goals for DeSales. 

CUA dominated in shots, including a 15-5 and 11-6 advantage in the second and third quarters.  CUA contolled the ball well, netting a 27-20 advantage in turnovers, but saw the visitors gain a 34-27 advantage in ground balls.

CUA will return to action Sunday, March 8, 2009 at 12 p.m. as the Cardinals welcome Randolph-Macon to Cardinal Stadium for the first half of a men's/women's lacrosse doubleheader.
