Yellow Jackets Sting Cardinals
WASHINGTON- Despite the outstanding offensive efforts of junior midfielder Jimmy Sinnott (Blue Bell, Pa./LaSalle), the CUA men's lacrosse team could not overcome the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets in Sunday afternoon's non-conference game. The Cardinals, now 2-1 on the year, fell to RMC by a score of 13-9.
Sinnott led the squad with an impressive five goals on the afternoon. Fellow junior Kyle Brant (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's) added two goals, while Mike Groh (Walpole, MA./Xavarian Bros) and Tyler Catalani (Frederick, Md./St. John's MD) each chipped in one. Jimmy Bitonti (Potomac, Md./Good Counsel) added four assists in the loss. Goalie Sean McKenna (Rockville,Md./Good Counsel) tallied 18 saves in the contest.
After falling behind 3-1 in the opening minutes of the first quarter, the Cardinals came charging back with three consecutive goals to take a 4-3 lead. Randolph-Macon answered with back-to-back goals in the beginning of the second. Both teams then traded goals before the Yellow Jackets took a 7-6 lead to end the half.
RMC held the Cards scoreless for the entirety of the third quarter, and scored five goals that went unanswered until the five minute mark of the final stanza. Sinnott's goal with 1:23 to play would be the closest the squad would come to their opponent.
CUA returns to the field on Wednesday, March 11th for a non-conference game against Richard Stockton. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
