Ospreys Sneak Past Cards
WASHINGTON- A Richard Stockton goal at the 1:57 mark of the fourth quarter proved to be the downfall of the CUA men's lacrosse team Saturday evening, as they fell to the Ospreys by a score of 9-8. With the loss, the squad falls to 2-2 on the year.
CUA's Kyle Brant (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's) led all scorers with three goals on the night, and also contributed three ground balls. Jimmy Sinnott (Blue Bell, Pa./LaSalle) chipped in with two goals, while teammate Mike Scotto (Belmar, N.J./St. Rose) added a pair of groundballs and assists. Tom Scotto (Spring Lake, N.J./St. Rose) was a tough force for CUA, winning seven draw controls, and goaltender Sean McKenna (Rockville,Md./Good Counsel) tallied 11 saves for the Cardinal defense.
Richard Stockton jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage, but a Jimmy Bitonti (Potomac, Md./Good Counsel) goal at the six minute mark sparked a 5-0 run in favor of Catholic. The Ospreys were able to find the back of the net before the second quarter buzzer sounded, giving the Cards a 5-4 edge going into the halftime period.
Stockton started the third quarter much like the first, once again recording three consecutive goals within the first four minutes. CUA was unable to find the back of the net until the fourth quarter, and Sinnott's goal at the three minute mark brought the two teams to an 8-8 deadlock. It was then that Richard Stockton's Matt Bell scored his second goal of the afternoon, giving the Ospreys a lead they would never relinquish.
CUA returns to the field Saturday, March 14th for a 1 p.m., meeting with Christopher Newport.
