Cards Dominate Penn State- Abington
WASHINGTON- The CUA men's lacrosse team showed their explosive offensive prowess at Cardinal Stadium Sunday afternoon, defeating the Penn State- Abington 19-3. With the victory, CUA improves to 4-2 on the year, while PSA drops to 0-6.
The Cards dominated in nearly every statistical category, outshooting their opponent a startling 52-9, and earning 25 more groundballs. The well-balanced offensive attack was led by Chris Fuccillo (Patchogue, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) and Jimmy Bitonti (Potomac, Md./Good Counsel) who each recorded three goals and one assist. Justin Schaufler (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards), Kyle Brant (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's), and Jimmy Sinnott (Blue Bell, Pa./LaSalle) added two goals apiece, and combined for four assists. Sinnott also led the squad with five ground balls in the victory.
CUA opened up the scoring with a goal by Mike Scotto (Belmar, N.J./St. Rose) off a pass from Mike Groh (Walpole, MA./Xavarian Bros) just a minute and a half into play. The offensive barrage continued throughout the first two stanzas, as the Cards outscored the Nittany Lions 11-1.
The second half mirrored the first, as CUA increased their lead to 16-1 by the end of the third quarter. PSUA was finally able to connect on two shot attempts, but back-to-back Cardinal goals in the final minutes gave CUA their 19-3 victory.
Men's lacrosse will travel to Marymount (Va.) on Tuesday, March 24th for a non-conference match up. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
