CUA Ousted by Marymount
ARLINGTON, Va.- A late 5-0 surge from Marymount's offensive attack proved to be the downfall of CUA's men's lacrosse team Tuesday evening, as the Cards were defeated by the Saints 11-6. The squad drops to 5-3 this season, while Marymount improves to 5-5.
All six of CUA's goals were scored by six individual players: Mike Groh (Walpole, MA./Xavarian Bros), Jimmy Bitonti (Potomac, Md./Good Counsel), Casey Glad (University Park, TX/Highland Park), Chris Fuccillo (Patchogue, N.Y./St. John the Baptist), Mike Scotto (Belmar, N.J./St. Rose), and Mark Saxton (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron). Saxton, Tom Scotto (Spring Lake, N.J./St. Rose), and Bob Ryan (Milton, MA/Milton) also added four groundballs each, while goaltender Bobby Blabolil (Fanwood, N.J./St Joseph's Metuchen) added 9 saves in the loss.
The Saints quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first few minutes of the game, but the Cards found their stride and scored three straight to end the first period. Marymount then took a 5-4 lead at halftime, outscoring CUA 3-1 in the second period.
CUA was able to outscore their opponent 2-1 in the third stanza, bringing the teams to a 6-6 draw. Marymount then opened up final quarter with five goals that went unanswered by the Cardinals, and the Saints ended the game with the 11-6 advantage.
The Cards will return to action for a 2:30 p.m., home contest against conference opponent Drew University.
