Men's Lacrosse Hosts Hero's Tournament
WASHINGTON- On March 21st, 2009, the CUA men's lacrosse team did their part in the fight against children's cancer, hosting the 2nd Annual Hero's Tournament. The tournament featured ten high school teams from around the area, and the proceeds were donated to children's cancer research.
Each year, the funds raised by this charity tournament are donated to a specific cause. The First Annual Hero's Tournament was held in honor of U.S. Army Specialist Thomas "T.J." Barbieri II, of Gaithersburg, Maryland who died on August 23, 2006, south of Baghdad, Iraq when his patrol countered enemy forces small arms fire during combat operations.
This year, each of the players and coaches donated their time and resources to raise awareness for children's cancer research. By encouraging everyone to purchase a tournament t-shirt or make a donation, they helped raise money for the charities involved, including the Parents and Children Fighting Cancer Organization located at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
