Men's Lax Drops Heartbreaker to York
YORK, Pa.- A late offensive surge in the fourth quarter proved to be the downfall of the CUA men's lacrosse team, as the squad suffered a 10-9 setback to York College Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, the Cards drop to 7-8 on the year, while York improves to 8-7.
Midfielder Chris Fuccillo (Patchogue, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) had a solid night for the Red and Black, contributing three goals, four ground balls, and two caused turnovers in the loss. Teammates Kyle Brant (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's) and Mark Saxton (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) pitched in with two goals apiece. Brant also scooped up three ground balls while Jimmy Bitonti (Potomac, Md./Good Counsel) and Mike Scotto (Spring Lake, N.J./St. Rose) dished out two assists each. Goalie Sean McKenna (Rockville,Md./Good Counsel) had another busy night between the posts, recording an impressive 16 saves on the night.
Fuccillo opened up the scoring with a goal in the Cards' favor less than two minutes into the game. CUA traded back-and-forth goals with their opponent for the next 13 minutes, and the first quarter ended at a 3-3 deadlock. The second stanza was much like the first, with both hungry teams battling for control of the lead. By halftime, both teams remained at a 6-6 draw.
The duo of Brant and Jimmy Sinnott (Blue Bell, Pa./LaSalle) helped the Cardinals outscore the Spartans 3-0 in the third quarter to take a comfortable 9-7 lead. CUA was unable to find the back of the net for the remainder of the afternoon, however, as York emerged victorious with the 10-9 advantage.
CUA will travel to Moravian on Saturday, April 25th for their final game of the season. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
