Men's Lax Finishes Season with Win Over Moravian
BETHLEHEM, Pa.- CUA's men's lacrosse team ended their season with an 8-6 victory over Moravian College on Saturday afternoon, improving the squad's overall record to 8-8 overall, 2-4 in the Landmark Conference.
Jimmy Sinnott led the Cardinal's scoring efforts with three goals on the afternoon. Jimmy Bitonti and Chris Fuccillo contributed two goals and two ground balls apiece, while Bitonti also added two assists. Mike Groh rounded out the squad's offensive production with a goal and two assists of his own. Andrew Baldwin scooped up five ground balls in the victory, while goalie Sean McKenna stopped eight shots in the net.
CUA's offense was sparked by Groh, Bitonti, and Sinnott who scored the first three goals of the match. Moravian's Robert Devine was able to connect with David Bennett to record the first Greyhound goal just under three minutes to go in the first quarter. Bitonti converted off a pass from Mark Saxton () to open up the second quarter, giving the Cards a 4-1 advantage. Moravian answered by scoring twice more, but CUA responded by notching back-to-back goals to end the second stanza.
The third quarter was relatively quiet for both teams, as Sinnott's third goal was matched by the Greyhounds at the one minute mark. Moravian then scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter, but Fuccillo finished things off for the Cards with another unassisted goal with six minutes left. CUA ran away with the 8-6 victory as the final seconds ticked away.
