Catholic Overpowers Susquehanna 10-3
Selingsgrove, Pa.- A great start leads to a 10-3 Catholic victory in Saturday's Landmark Conference game against the Susquehanna University Crusaders. The Cardinals completely controlled the first two quarters and led 5-0 at half. The Crusaders were able to get a little offense going in the third and fourth quarters, but Catholic held strong to finish with the victory. The win improves the Cardinals record to 7-4 on the year and 1-1 in the Landmark.
Junior Kyle Brant (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's) and freshman Mark Saxton (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) led the Cardinal's charge with three goals each. Junior Mike Scotto (Belmar, N.J./St. Rose) also had a good day with two goals. Junior Jimmy Sinnot (Blue Bell, Pa./LaSalle) and freshman Tyler Catalani each found the back of the net once to round out Catholic's scoring (Frederick, Md./St. John's MD). Junior Mike Groh served as an offensive catalyst today with two assists.
Catholic played great defense today as Susquehanna only had 15 shots, compared to Catholic's 42. Of these shots, only three found the net thanks in large part to the good goalie play by sophomore Sean McKenna (Rockville,Md./Good Counsel). Junior Andrew Baldwin (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) applied great defensive pressure and picked up a team leading six ground balls.
The next game for the Cardinals will be a night contest against Landmark conference rival Merchant Marine. The away game will be at 7:00pm on April 10th. After that the Cardinals will return home for Landmark games on April 15th and 18th.
