Men's Lacrosse Dominates Cazenovia, 16-2
WASHINGTON- The Catholic University University men's lacrosse team earned their second win in as many games on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Wildcats of Cazenovia College by a decisive score of 16-2 With the win, the Cardinals improve to 2-0 on the year, while Cazenovia drops to 0-1.
Mike Groh and Mark Saxton were a deadly duo for the Cards, netting four goals apiece and combining for three assists. Chris Fuccillo was next in line for the squad, recording two goals, one assist, and one caused turnover on the night. Jimmy Bitonti, Mike Scotto, Nathan Chan, Kevin Shea, Tyler Catalani, and Jimmy Sinnott all contributed one goal each to round out the scoring.
CUA was also a tough defensive force throughout the game, as the Wildcats found the back of the net on only two occasions. The squad also totalled 11 caused turnovers, led by Steve Harrington who contributed in the victory. Goaltender Sean McKenna was at the heart of the Cardinal defense, earning 8 saves on the night.
The Cardinals dominated the game from the opening faceoff. CUA scored ten unanswered goals in the first two quarters to give them a 10-0 lead at the half. The squad continued their offensive rampage by recording the next four points, allowing Cazenovia to score their only goals in the third quarter. The Cards wrapped up their attack with two additional goals in the final period to seal the 16-2 victory.
CUA will now travel to Atlanta, Ga., for a tournament where they will face Birmingham Southern on March 12, and Sewanee on March 14. Game times are set for 4 p.m., and 12 p.m., respectively.
