Men's Lax Soars Past Birmingham, Sewanee
ATLANTA, Ga.- The Catholic University men's lacrosse team traveled to Atlanta, Ga., over Spring Break, earning two additional wins to their undefeated season against Birmingham Southern College and Sewanee University
The Cardinals proved dominant in game one, earning a 17-5 win over Birmingham Southern College. Chris Fuccillo and Marc Saxton combined for 8 goals, netting five and three, respectively. Justin Schaufler was next in line for the Cards, netting two goals for CUA. Tyler Catalani, Mike Scotto, Nathan Chan, Mike Groh, Jimmy Sinnot, Steve Harrington and Will O’Brien all contributed to the Cardinal’s explosive offensive attack with one goal apiece.
Tom Scotto and Mike Scotto finished with eight and five groundballs, respectively. T. Scotto was also 18-22 on face-offs for the night. Goaltender Sean McKenna stopped ten shots in the net, earning his third victory of the season.
In the second game against the Sewanee Tigers, the Cardinals found success in another well-rounded team effort. M. Scotto finished with two goals and two assists, followed by Groh with two goals and one assist. Mark Saxton found the back of the net twice, while teammates Catalani, Sinnott, Schaufler, T. Scotto, Chan, and Jimmy Bitonti all added one each.
T. Scotto tallied 8 groundballs in the victory, winning 12 of 17 face-offs, while McKenna earned 8 saves in the net.
CUA (4-0) returns to Cardinal Stadium on Wednesday, March 17th for a non-conference game against Marymount University. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
