Men's Lacrosse Continues to Roll, Defeats Moravian 14-5
WASHINGTON- CUA’s men’s lacrosse team added yet another win to their shining record with a 14-5 win over conference rival Moravian College Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Cards improves to 7-1 on the year, while the Greyhounds drop to 1-6.
Catholic’s Jimmy Sinnott struck first for the Cardinals with an unassisted goal three minutes into the contest. Moravian answered as Jacob Harris connected with Christopher Mohapp at the 7 minute mark, but CUA’s Mark Saxton converted a pass from Tyler Catalani to give the home team a 2-1 edge at the end of the quarter. Mohapp opened up the scoring in the second quarter with an unassisted goal just a few minutes in. The duo of Chris Fuccillo and Saxton helped give Catholic a 4-2 lead going into halftime.
The squad hit their offensive stride in the third quarter, using a balanced attack to outscore the Greyhounds 8-1. Moravian tallied two in the fourth, but Fuccillo and Sinnott sealed the win with two additional goals in the final period. CUA ran away with a decisive 14-5 victory.
Fuccillo tallied four goals in the game, bringing him to a total of 26 on the year. Saxton and Sinnott added three goals each, while Mike Groh and Jimmy Bitonti chipped in two apiece. Bitonti also dished out a team-high of three assists.
Rob Ryan once again led the defensive efforts of the squad with four caused turnovers and three groundballs. Tom Scotto won 13-18 face-offs, scooping up six groundballs in the win. Sean McKenna collected 8 saves in the net.
CUA will travel to Richard Stockton on March 31st for a 7:30 p.m., non-conference game.
