Men's Lax Drops Conference Game to Drew, 8-4
WASHINGTON- CUA's men's lacrosse team suffered an 8-4 setback at the hands of the Drew University Rangers Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 7-2 overall, 1-1 in the Landmark Conference.
The Rangers opened up the scoring in the first quarter with a Jon Bucknam goal at the 13 minute mark. CUA tied things up later in the stanza, as Marc Saxton connected with Jimmy Bitonti for his 12th goal of the year. Drew managed to grab the lead with only 12 seconds left in the period, taking a 2-1 advantage into the second.
CUA then allowed Drew to go on a 4-0 run in the second stanza, while struggling to gain any offensive momentum of their own. Saxton and teammate Chris Fuccillo notched the squads final three goals of the game, as part of CUA's 3-1 run in the final minutes. The second quarter run proved to be too much to overcome, however, as Drew ran away with the 8-4 decision.
Saxton led the way for the Cardinals with two goals, one assist, and two groundballs in the loss. Fucillo and Bitonti each added one apiece, also combining for five groundballs. Ryan Doyle and Steve Harrington chipped in with two caused turnovers each, and goalie Sean McKenna added four saves in the net.
Catholic University will look to bounce back on April 13, as they travel to Shenandoah University for a 7 p.m., non-conference game.
