Men's Lax Suffers 10-7 Setback at Goucher College
TOWNSON, Md.- The Catholic University men's lacrosse lost a close conference game at the hands of Goucher College Wednesday afternoon, 10-7. With the loss, the Cardinals drop to 9-3 on the year, 2-2 in Landmark play.
CUA jumped out to an early 3-1 advantage, led by the efforts of Chris Fuccillo and Marc Saxton. Goucher responded with two additional goals in the first half, but Mike Groh and Fuccillo helped extend the lead to 5-3 by the end of the second quarter.
The Gophers finally hit their offensive stride in the third stanza, scoring three unanswered goals to take the lead. Goucher outscored Catholic 4-2 in the remaining minutes of play, securing the 10-7 victory with a final goal at the four minute mark.
Catholic's Fuccillo had another stellar offensive performance, contributing five goals in the loss. Groh and Saxton each added one goal and two groundballs apiece. Mike Scotto chipped in with six groundballs in the loss.
On the defensive end, Rob Ryan and Steve Harrington managed five and four caused turnovers, respectively. They also picked up three groundballs apiece. Goaltender Sean McKenna stopped 14 shots and allowed 10 goals in the loss.
CUA will look to bounce back on Saturday, April 24, as they host conference foe USMMA at 1 p.m.
