Men's Lax Drops Heartbreaker to Goucher
TOWSON, Md.- CUA's men's lacrosse team (12-4) made program history this week by advancing to the Landmark Conference Championship for the first time. On Saturday afternoon, the team's dream of winning a title came to an end the hands of Goucher College in Towson, Md.
The Gophers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but CUA's Mike Scotto and Jimmy Bitonti answered back by scoring the next two goals. Goucher then rattled off the next seven consecutive goals, taking an 8-2 lead into the third quarter.
Sophomore Chris Fuccillo brought the Cardinals within five, netting his first goal of the afternoon midway through the third stanza. Goucher then outscored CUA 3-1 in the final minutes of play, sealing the 11-4 victory and clinching the Landmark Conference title.
Fuccillo led the Cards with two goals on the afternoon. He also managed one groundball and one caused turnover. Bitonti and Scotto notched the only other goals for the CUA squad. Mike Groh also dished out two assists and added two groundballs.
Sean Fitzpatrick chipped in two caused turnovers in the loss, as CUA managed 12 total CTs for the night. Goaltender Sean McKenna tallied nine saves in the net.
