GRANTHAM, Pa. - The CUA men's soccer team lost to No. 1 Messiah College on Saturday night by a score of 2-1. CUA's Earl Hamilton scored the first and only goal for the Cardinals and Messiah's Danny Thompson and Derek Black scored one each.
CUA was outshot 20 -7 and were credited three corner kicks to Messiah's five. CUA goalkeeper Torsten Meuschke stopped 6 shot, while Messiah's Jake Berry sent back two.
Both teams started off strong with Messiah firing back-to back shots two minutes into the game but was unable to find the back of the net. CUA answered with two back-to back shots moments later but was also unsuccessful.
CUA's first and only goal was at the 25:33 mark when Earl Hamilton dribbled through Messiah's defense to make the score 1-0. Three minutes later Messiah's Danny Thompson scored with an assist from Jack Thompson to tie the game 1-1.
The first half ended with both CUA and Messiah shooting one each but both were unable to score.
Much like the first half both teams started off strong with CUA's Mike Brennan unleashing back-to-back shots but was unable to capitalize. Messsiah's Black scored the third and final goal of the night with an assist by Danny Thompson.
As time winded down Messiah outshot CUA 10-1 to end the second half with a final score of 2-1.
CUA is back in action on Tuesday, September 13 when the Cardinals return home to host Marymount. Action gets underway beginning at 4 p.m.
