Two Cardinals named to All-Region Team
WASHINGTON – Two members of the CUA men’s soccer
team have been named to the 2012 Mid-Atlantic All-Region Team, it
was announced on Wednesday. Kevin Romano was named to the
Second Team, while Mike Brennan received Third Team
honors. Both Cardinals were First Team All-Landmark
Conference selections this season.
Romano, who became CUA’s first Landmark Conference Defensive
Player of the Year, started all 16 matches this season and totaled
two goals and three assists. Two of his goals went for
game-winners, including against nationally ranked Scranton on
October 20.
With Romano leading the way, CUA shutout seven opponents,
including a string of four straight to close the regular
season. The Cardinals held eight teams to 10 or fewer shots,
with a low of four coming vs. Shenandoah.
Brennan had another strong season for the Cards, totaling team
highs in goals (7), assists (4) and points (12). Brennan
netted three game-winning goals, including in the regular season
finale at Drew, and he registered seven of his 12 points vs.
conference foes.
Brennan was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the
Week on October 29 and wrapped up his career with 28 goals and 68
points in 79 matches.
CUA went 13-6 this past season, including a mark of 6-1 in the
Landmark Conference. The Cardinals, who closed the regular
season with five straight wins, were ranked 10th in the final
Mid-Atlantic Region rankings.
