WASHINGTON – CUA won its third straight Landmark

CUA controlled the action in this one from start to finish, outshooting the Gophers 29-9, including a 17-4 advantage in the second half.
Goucher got off the first shot of the day, from Nate Margolis just 1:06 into the match, but it went high.
The Cardinals then took 10 of the next 11 shots, including a header from Mike Brennan at the 23:59 mark that was saved by Scott Witte.
One minute later, CUA got on the board when Fernandez took a feed from Kevin Romano and found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
In the final six minutes before halftime, Goucher was able to get off a pair of shots, but both went high, and the Cardinals took their one-goal lead into the break.
20 minutes into the second half, the Cardinals added to their lead when Tyler Zimmerman fed Horvath for his second goal of the season and a 2-0 lead.
The shots continued to come for CUA, with three in the next several minutes, including one by Horvath that again found the back of the net and gave the Cards a comfortable three-goal advantage.
Goucher’s Parker Bay tried to get the Gophers on the board in the 79th minute, but his attempt was stopped by CUA’s Cam McGrory to preserve the shutout.
CUA was awarded 10 corner kicks on the day, with only two going to Goucher.
McGrory finished with five saves for the home team, while Scott Witte sent back eight shots for Goucher.
