Cardinals cruise past Marymount 6-0

ARLINGTON, Va. – CUA breezed past Marymount on Wednesday evening, downing the Saints 6-0 on the road.  Chris Larson scored two goals for the Cardinals, while Luke Scarchilli, Ben Fleri, Mike Brennan and Nick Civeti also scored to help CUA improve to 6-3 on the year.

The teams traded shots during the early going, with CUA taking six attempts and Marymount three.

In the 41st minute, Scarchilli found the back of the net off a corner kick by Nico Bartolomeo to put CUA in front 1-0.

Less than two minutes later, Fleri took a pass from Kevin Romano and scored on a shot to the far post to make it a two-goal lead for the Cards.

The scoring continued 46 seconds later when Larson got on the board for the first time when he scored on a free kick, to send CUA into halftime with a 3-0 lead.

Following an early offside call on CUA at the start of the second half, Brennan increased the spread to four when he collected a loose ball and beat the Marymount keeper for his third goal of the season.

At the 65:32 mark, Larson struck for his second score of the evening, which came on a shot 25 yards out.  Ian Smith assisted on the goal as CUA went in front 5-0.

With less than 20 minutes to play, Civetti completed the scoring for the Cardinals when he scored on a penalty kick.

CUA's defense held the Saints to only one shot for the remainder of the match and the Cards picked up their sixth win of 2012.

CUA finished with a 16-9 advantage in shots and an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.

In goal for the Cardinals, Cam McGrory received the start and sent back two shots before Torsten McQuestion stopped one shot in his collegiate debut.

Marymount starter Mike Madigan made three saves and Alexander Cortez played the final nine minutes.
