Men's Soccer Victory Secures No. 1 Seed in Landmark Tournament
WASHINGTON - The Catholic University men's soccer team picked up a 1-0 decision over the University of Scranton on Saturday, Nov. 2, securing the top spot in the upcoming Landmark Conference Tournament.
The Cardinals (12-3-2) improve to 5-0-1 in the conference and sit in first place behind 16 points, with one game still to play. CUA has locked up the No. 1 seed for this week's Landmark Conference Tournament which begins on Thursday with two semifinal games. Catholic will face Merchant Marine Academy on Monday, although the outcome will have no impact on the Cardinal's situation, the final score has implications for the fourth final seed.
After neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half, Chris Larson (Nassau, Bahamas/Portsmouth Academy) scored for the Cardinals 7:50 into the second half, off of an assist by Tyler Zimmerman (Raleigh, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons).
Torsten Meuschke (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) picked up three saves in the victory, his seventh shutout win of the year.
The Cardinals return to action for their final regular season game at Bishop Eustace Preparatory School in Pennsauken, N.J. to take on Merchant Marine Academy at 7:30 p.m.
