WASHINGTON – Catholic University Head Men's Soccer Coach Travis Beauchamp announces the 2014 schedule on Friday, June 6. The 23-game season will consist of a Division I scrimmage on the CUA Soccer Field and the program's inaugural "Turk DC Classic" in honor of CUA Hall of Fame member Hicabi "Turk" Emekli.
"This year's schedule is one of the most difficult that we have had in my years at Catholic," said Beauchamp. "We are playing the defending NCAA National Champions Messiah, as well as a number of strong non-conference programs to prepare our guys for the always difficult conference schedule. We will have some new faces and they will have to get acclimated pretty quickly for us to have success," said Beauchamp. "We can't wait to get going in August."
CUA opens the season on Tuesday, Aug. 19 by hosting a scrimmage against George Washington at 4:00 p.m. The Colonials ended the 2013 season with a record of 5-10-2 off a final four-game losing streak.
A 1:00 p.m. matchup against Dickinson will serve as the official home opener for the Cardinals on Friday, Aug. 29, which kicks off the inaugural "Turk" D.C. Classic. The weekend continues with CUA taking on Hampden-Sydney on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 3:30 p.m. Along with the Cardinal matchups, Fredonia, who is the fourth team to participate in the tournament, will face Hampden-Sydney on Friday, Aug. 29 at 3:30 p.m. and Dickinson on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 1:00 p.m.
After the conclusion of four non-conference contests, the Cards will open Landmark Conference action on Saturday, Sept. 20 with first-year Landmark Conference members Elizabethtown. The kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
