WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America men's soccer team topped the preseason poll on Tuesday, Aug. 19, as they were predicted to take the Landmark Conference Title with five first place votes and 72 points.
Catholic (12-6-2, 5-1-1) wrapped up the 2013 regular season as the No. 1 seed in last year's Landmark tournament before falling short in the semifinals. The Cardinals are loaded with senior leadership and have the ability to contend for the title. First Team All-Landmark midfielder Hunter Horvath returns along with Second Team goalkeeper Torsten Meuschke.
Susquehanna trails the Cards in the second place slot with three first place votes and 64 points, as Drew comes in at third with one first place vote and 55 points.
The Cardinals hosted their first scrimmage on Tuesday, welcoming Division I George Washington to the CUA Soccer Field. GW defeated CUA 2-0.
Catholic opens the regular season on Friday, Aug. 29 with the "Turk" D.C. Classic, CUA takes on Dickinson on Friday at 1:00 p.m. and Hampden-Sydney on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
