WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America men’s soccer team captured its second straight Landmark Conference win and its fifth shutout of the 2017 season with a 2-0 victory over Goucher College on Wednesday afternoon.
After 81 minutes of scoreless play, sophomore Mike Narzikul ripped a shot at the net from 40-yards out on the left wing. Goucher keeper, Daniel Hendry, made the save but was unable to trap the high-velocity shot setting up freshman Nelson Zimmerman to capitalize on the bobbled save for the gamewinner.
Nearly six minutes later, Zimmerman chased a long ball down the right side and served a cross to junior Brian Galfond. Awaiting the cross on the left side of the six-yard box, Galfond controlled the ball with one touch sending it into the center of the net for Catholic’s insurance goal.
Galfond, along with senior Nick Joesten led Catholic’s offensive efforts with four shots apiece while Zimmerman took three.
Graduate student Zachery Tashjy made two saves during the match and recorded his fourth win of the year.
The Cardinals continue Landmark play when they travel to Elizabethtown College on Saturday, October 7, for a 4 p.m., kickoff.
