Catholic Falls to Washington College, 1-0

Chestertown, Md. - The Catholic University of America men’s soccer team fell, 1-0, in its nonconference match up with Washington College on Tuesday night.

The Cardinals gave up an early goal in the third minute after the referees awarded the Shoremen a free kick that hopped around in the six-yard box before finding its way to the back of the net.

Catholic fought back with a shooting advantage of 16-12 while earning seven corner kicks through the match.

With under 12 minutes remaining in the game, senior Heston Priestley took a chance at the net when he sent a header from the center of the box. The Shoremen’s freshman keeper Gavin Campbell got his hands on it to make the save.

Priestley led the Cards with five shots during the midweek matchup while sophomore Andrew Laurenzano took three. Graduate student Zachery Tashjy started in goal for the Cardinals and made one save in the first half. Tashjy split time with junior Ryan Cassidy who recorded two saves in the second half.

The Cardinals return home to host Moravian College in a Landmark Conference matchup at 3:30 p.m., on Saturday, October 14.
