CUA Plays Hood Even In Double OT
Teams battle to almost equal stats for110 minutes
FREDERICK, Md. - For 110 minutes the CUA men's soccer team (3-6-2, 1-3-1 CAC) fought against the Hood Blazers (5-6-1, 1-4-1) but in the end neither of the two very equal teams was able to get in a winning score. This was the first conference tie for both squads who are close in the CAC rankings.
The Blazers scored first with a goal by Tom Noonan from a throw-in by Ben Snyder at 14:38. Daniel Clifford (Marlton, N.J./Holy Cross) evened it up at 23:40 when he snuck in a rebound off of the keeper that had gone to teammate Edward Dawson (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll). Just three minutes before the end of the first half, Hood charged ahead when David Wilson took a ball from Brandon Garton and placed it into the net past CUA keeper Joe Schettino (Easton, Conn./Joel Barlow).
In the second half, the Cardinals scored the equalizer at 57:20. Junior David Hidalgo (Bethesda, Md./St. John's College Prep) hit the tying goal knocking it in off of a cross by freshman Chris Barr (Hatboro, Pa./La Salle College Prep). The 2-2 score would remain for the next 52 minutes as both teams attempted shots but neither could break through the defense. After two ten-minute overtime periods, the game was called a draw.
The two teams ended up incredibly close in the stats with Hood taking 13 shots and Catholic University attempting 11. They were even on corner kicks with six and close in saves with Schettino having two more 8-6.
CUA will have little time to rest with a game scheduled on Sunday at Wesley for 1:00 p.m.
