Matt Brady continues to lead the Cards in scoring
BRIDGEWATER, Va. - CUA men's soccer (1-5-1)lost a close 1-0 game to Bridgewater (3-4) Saturday in Virginia. Both teams had plenty of opportunities to score, but the Eagles converted a shot in the final minute of play to get the win.
Shooting was the theme of the game as the two teams took a combined 44 shots. Bridgewater was able to get off more in the first half of play although only three were on goal. The Cardinals, on the other hand, outshot the Eagles 12-8 in the second half yet all seven shots on goal were stopped by keeper Mitch Hamersley.
With the game getting rough, it looked like the teams would be going into overtime where CUA would hold the advantage due to a late red card for the Eagles. However, with just 20 seconds left Chris Thomas hit an unassisted shot past Cardinal goalkeeper Joe Schettino (Easton, Conn/Joel Barlow) for the win.
Both Schettino and Hamersley had ten saves for the afternoon. The shots were 24-20 in favor of the Eagles while corner kicks were just 3-2 CUA.
The Cards will return home this Thursday for a game against Gallaudet on the turf at 4:00 p.m.
