Gophers Stop Cards 3-1
CUA scores first but can't hold on
TOWSON, Md. - The Catholic University men's soccer started out strong against the Goucher College Gophers (5-8-1, 1-3-1 Landmark) but unfortunately couldn't hold on to their lead to fall 3-1 Wednesday evening in Maryland. With the loss the Cards fall to 5-8-1 on the season and 1-3-1 in the Landmark Conference.
CUA got on the board early when Brian Pappas (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) received a pass from Adrian Davis (Towson, Md./Calvert Hall). Pappas managed to sneak it by keeper Justin Holbrook to take the 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute. CUA kept the lead for the entire first half and looked to be in solid shape going into the second.
Unfortunately the second half proved to be a scoring spree for the Gophers as the tallied three unanswered goals. Chris Herting scored in the 65th minute and just five minutes later, Evan Rosse notched another off of a pass from Galen Guindon. In the 77th minute Goucher struck once again with Herting's second goal of the game, Julien Greco was credited with the assist making the final 3-1.
The Cards were outshot 20-13 and had just three corner kicks to Goucher's seven. Quinn Daly (San Diego, Calif./St. Augustine) was given the loss despite six saves and Holbrook took the win as well as four saves for the game.
The Cardinals will host their final home game this Sunday as they battle conference-opponent Moravian in a doubleheader at the Upper Fields. The day has also been designated as senior day and there will be a short ceremony before the start of the 3:30 p.m. game.
